The Wave is an extraordinary novel that has had a huge impact in Europe over the last thirty years. It explores the nature of fascism and the appeal of mass movements through the true-life story of a Californian High School which began an experiment in the 1960’s that rapidly ran out of control. The production will be the first theatrical dramatisation of the original in English and allow us to explore these complex and fascinating themes in a dynamic and accessible piece of theatre. The Wave goes beyond mere polemic and our production will do the same, drawing on the iconic culture of 1960’s America and the familiar world of the US High School to draw the audience into a dilemma that is sadly all too relevant in our troubled times.

Schauspiel von Miguel de Cervantes
Cide Hamete, un moro, es arrestado en la época de la inquisición de España y es sometido a juicio por aducir falsamente haberse convertido a la religión cristiana. Él alega que es el colaborador de Cervantes y que escribió mucho de Don Quijote de la Mancha. El inquisidor le otorga una oportunidad para defenderse, mediante la que debe probar que es el colaborador de Cervantes contando la historia de Don Quijote. De esta manera (tal como en el original) Hamete, el moro, narra las aventuras del „caballero de la triste figura” y su leal escudero, Sancho Panza. Además, se han tornado elementos tanto del primer como del segundo libro, caracterizando así al héroe como el caballero inocente y desconocido del primero y al mismo tiempo como el héroe extrañamente famoso del segundo. La aventura culmina con la aceptación final de la muerte por parte de Don Quijote y su conocimiento de sí mismo, en paralelismo con el personaje del sabio moro, Hamete, quien se revela como otra invención más de Cervantes mismo.
